For many years, I had felt like I was being forced to live in a world that was not designed for me. Then I became a mental health therapist and began to see more and more neurodivergent clients seeking help with their issues. In 2023, I realized that I, too, met the criteria for what is known as AuDHD. I knew that I needed to know how to help my clients and myself, so I started learning everything I could about how and why our bodies and brains work the way they do and how we interact with and respond to our environments.
Sitting in my office one day, thinking about and researching neurodivergent issues, I noticed that I hadn’t been experiencing as many of the neurodivergent issues as I had before. My office had become a place where I could feel safer and less overwhelmed. I could think more clearly and could even unmask. This helped me to understand how feeling safe internally allowed me to function better, feel more confident, communicate more effectively, and be more productive.
Taking what I had learned, I began helping clients who were struggling with neurodivergent issues learn how to reduce the amount of overstimulation, flooding, and burnout they were experiencing, reclaim their autonomy, discover their strengths, communicate more effectively, improve their executive functioning, gain self-confidence, and after years of negative feedback from their environments reclaim their autonomy, improve their relationships, and excel in their careers.
